Introduction
The Types  KSD15 to KSD80 VAKUTEC®   splitt silencer  are especially suitable when the noise emission must be reduced according to guidlines such as those of the TA noise abatement.
 
Sizes
The following descriptions are for link noise muffler sizes upto DN1250 for volume streams upto 68800 m3/h. VAKUTEC®   link noise muffler  Types KSD15 to KSD80 needed for larger volume streams and a building adapted  construction form  require special planning.
 
Designation
The link noise mufflers are given the abbreviation KSD as a general designation for link noise mufflers and in addition the insertion loss 15, 22, 29, 36, 40, 44, 51, 55, 58, 62, 65, 69, 72, 76 and 80 dB(A)) based on an octave middle frequency of 250Hz. Due to the standard lengths (500,750,1000,1250,1500.1750) and their combinations the following noise  mufflers result: KSD15, KSD22,KSD29, KSD36, KSD40, KSD44, KSD51, KSD55, KSD58, KSD62, KSD65, KSD69,KSD72,Ksd76 and KSD80.

Construction
The link noise muffler, or rather it´s connection to the planned piping or duct system is adapted to the local conditions accordingly. The following illustrates the noise muffler from the inflow end with an abrupt cross section expansion and a transition on the outflow end.
In addition, due to the abrupt cross section expansion the noise  level  is reduced.
 
Functioning
Absorption silencers are used. The sound energy penetrates into the absorbing material and is  turned into kinetic energy. Through the movement of the fibrous material friction occurs between the fibres. Due to this friction the kinetic energy is converted into warmth.
Materials
The materials used depend on the specific physical and chemical arising capacities. Preferably synthetic materials such as PVC,PP and PVDF are used for the casing and the link frames. The links are made up of sound absorbing glass or mineral wool, which if necessary is additionally protected with a sound transparent foil.
 
Technical Details
The VAKUTEC®   lsplitt silencer types KSD15 to KSD80 achieve an insertion loss of 15 to 80 dB(A) with an octave middle frequency of 250Hz. The pressure loss to be taken into consideration, if allowing for transitions, is 50 Pa per transition and 90Pa for the actual noise muffler.
